Private Jet Etiquette: What You Need To Know

With the rising demand for private jet charters, it’s important for flyers to have a basic understanding of “jetiquette,” or private jet etiquette. Given the increasing popularity of private charter flights for both business and leisure, some travelers might be new to flying private. Flying private is different from commercial flying — private flights come with a set of rules travelers should follow.

When you’re ready to charter a private jet, the team at Rennia Aviation can get you where you want to go in style. We offer a wide range of private jets to fit your travel needs. What is Private Jet Etiquette?

Dress Code

Depending on if your flight is for leisure or business, you should dress accordingly. If you’re meeting someone on business, it’s better to dress formally. For men, this means a shirt, trousers, and dress shoes – or a full suit. For women, a smart pantsuit or dress will work well. However, if you’re flying with friends and family, it’s fine to dress more casually.

Private Jet Vocabulary

No matter the type of private jet you charter, there are a few terms you should become familiar with before you travel, including the following. However, if you hear something you don’t understand, feel free to ask us! Many of our clients fly privately as a one-off experience. Our flight crew is eager to make your experience as enjoyable as possible.

  • YOM — Year of manufacture

  • Refurb Dates — When the plane’s interior was last refurbished

  • Seating Config — Layout and seating arrangement on-board

  • PAX — Number of passengers

Tipping

It is not mandatory to leave tips to the flight crew, but it’s the same as any other luxury service you get. If you are willing to say thank you and are happy with your flight experience, you may want to tip the flight crew. The amount usually ranges from $50–$100. Remember, you are not obligated to tip, but it is appreciated.

Luggage

A significant perk of flying private is that all of your luggage can usually travel on the aircraft with you. This means avoiding long lines at airport security and additional fees as per commercial flying. Luggage capacities vary by aircraft, so be sure to talk to our team at Rennia Aviation to learn more about exact baggage limits. Usually, passengers are allowed one regular-sized suitcase and one carry-on bag.

Arrival Time

Passengers should arrive around 15 minutes before their scheduled flight so that the flight crew can check identification, load the luggage, and get ready for a departure. If you know you will be late for the flight, get in touch to let us know when you plan to arrive. We will notify the flight crew and will make some adjustments for your convenience.

Alcohol

If passengers are of legal drinking age, they can drink alcohol on a private jet as much as they want. However, it is appreciated that passengers don’t over drink because it might be distracting the pilot and the flight crew. Contact us to learn more about our drinking policies on board.
